International IT Talent Succeeding in New Zealand – Milorads Story

Milorad’s story of coming to New Zealand and gaining employment in the IT industry highlights how the correct alignment of government initiatives, employer demand and skillful recruitment strategy can bring exciting results for the employers, employees and our recruitment team. This is a point often overlooked by many candidates who try to go it alone. A reputable recruitment consultancy like Enterprise builds high levels of trust with their clients that facilitate an easier process for candidates to gain an introduction.

IT Industry’s Rapid Growth in New Zealand
Internet Technology and the Government
Government support is helping to attract top quality talent. Milorad is an Embedded Software Developer and a recent immigrant from Romania to New Zealand.
Interestingly, he cites the government’s policy of streamlined immigration for highly skilled migrants as one of the deciding factors for choosing to come to New Zealand originally. Couple that with the Enterprise National IT team and you have a recipe for success.
Milorad says that he has never worked with a recruitment consultancy in the past and he has found the process to be a lot faster than his own direct applications plus the result speaks for itself. People with Milorad’s skills can find work in many countries; so it is encouraging to hear how our
government’s support is working to attract highly skilled people to New Zealand.
What sort of people are NZ companies looking for?
The types of people New Zealand IT companies are looking for this varies month by month. Demand is strong in most sectors of IT experience, however, Enterprise are reporting strong demand for Senior Software Developers, experienced Business Analysts and Senior Testers. Enterprise IT is connected to a large network of companies seeking candidates now. The lifestyle in New Zealand is very attractive to a lot of overseas people – examples of how successful Information Technology candidates have found moving to “Aotearoa” New Zealand can be found here.
How can Enterprise help you?
Enterprise IT helps “new” New Zealanders like Milorad to secure their first job opportunities in the local market, creating a win-win situation for employers and international job seekers alike. At Enterprise Recruitment we pride ourselves on being different in our approach to IT recruitment. The most important thing about dealing with Enterprise is the “partnership” approach we take with candidates and employers to bring the amazing results shown on this website. The Enterprise IT team is very hands on and will make it happen by using a range of successful recruitment strategies learned in our 40 year plus history.
As an example on connecting with Milorad, the Enterprise IT team was able to place him in his first New Zealand developer role. This was a contract role assisting with embedded software development for a high tech Rumen Monitoring system for the dairy industry.
When this interesting project was drawing to a close the Enterprise IT team made finding Milorad his next opportunity a priority. His CV and profile were presented to another rapidly advancing New
Zealand software company, Smart Parking.
The Interview style in New Zealand
Newcomers to New Zealand can at times struggle to adjust to the more open style of communication that is also present in interviews. Not being familiar with the way New Zealand business communication is structured may at times create a barrier to a perfectly qualified candidate’s success, this also seemed to be the case for Milorad.
To assist Milorad, Enterprise IT’s first priority was to help him understand the New Zealand job culture and introduce approaches that would help him succeed in the local interview process. This included helping Milorad to articulate some of the projects he has delivered and align them to local companies’
requirements. In addition, Enterprise IT assisted him in producing support materials and notes around his past project deliveries, for example, explaining timelines, expanding on the actual coding and presenting project designs.
All of this was applied by Milorad in his interviews (secured through Enterprise IT ) with New Zealand Software company Smart Parking, enabling him to impress the employer.
Having a relationship with a Recruitment consultancy pays off
As Milorad had been placed by Enterprise It in his first role the team was able to gain a favorable supporting reference from this previous employer to forward to Smartparking. This highlights how a strategic relationship with a recruitment consultancy can be leveraged throughout a career, not just a single opportunity.
As a result of Milorad taking Enterprise IT’s advice on board and Enterprise being able to support Milorad’s application through a positive reference, he received a formal job offer from Smart Parking.
Smart Parking CTO, Roly Rogers said they were delighted with Milorad’s enthusiastic response to the offer to join their company further reinforcing the decision to work with all parties to bring about a
successful outcome .
A good recruitment company will work with a candidate to tailor their information specifically for their clients. Their management of the application process enables a candidate to stand apart from
the crowd of direct applicants, bypassing the often tedious initial screening processes with a direct recommendation from a trusted advisor. Often this can be the difference between getting no
opportunity to meet and a successful job offer.
Milorad comments that a permanent role with a dynamic company has enabled him to look confidently at the future in New Zealand. He now has plans to move from an intermediate
accommodation solution to a more established situation that will enable him to start planning a family with his wife.
A partnership approach brings success for all parties including employer, employee and New Zealand. Enterprise IT work with many international candidates, their commitment includes having New Zealand based international consultants who speak the language of the candidates and can offer them a friendly familiar voice and advice when making the transition to a new country.
