How to Retain Staff in Your Business
Here are the top 5 tips to keeping staff and having happy employees:
Make your staff feel valued
Help your people grow
Hire within
Establish a strong culture
The culture of a company is one of the main reasons people will stay at a job. If you make everyone feel part of the culture of your workplace, you are already half way there. Having regular social out of office activities bonds staff together and creates a fun environment for people to feel they are getting more out of their job than just the regular 9-5. Also the culture of success can be contagious! Culture starts at the top and what ever is portrayed from the senior management team is generally picked up on by employees so it is important that managers are aware of this and “ooze” the culture at all times.
Power and the Passion
This may be a quote from Midnight Oils famous song of 1983 however they are wise words to follow for employers. You have to have passion. Nobody wants to follow a boss who has no passion for the industry or job. Passion and excitement about the company they run is a must have in our opinion. A great attitude is infectious and will spread through all facets of the business. Give personalised gifts to staff for weddings and so on. Celebrating an important event in a staff members life with a special gift is something that sticks with them for ever and creates a lot of value. Also make sure you are constantly reinforcing the company mission statement and making that mission statement a standard to live by at all times. If you can’t explain your mission and values in less then one sentence then it may be too long. Keep it short and snappy so employees can work by a solid framework and understand the goals and objectives clearly.
