Stay Smart, Stay Safe: Avoiding Recruitment Scams

Real Jobs. Real People. Here's how to tell the difference.

Real Jobs. Real People. Here’s how to tell the difference.

Scammers don’t sleep, and recently, we have seen a rise in fake job ads, impersonated consultants and “offers” that lead nowhere good. At Enterprise, we believe in making connections for the right reasons, not as a trap. Here’s how to spot a scammer, protect yourself…and keep focusing on the real opportunities.

How the Scams Work

Fake recruiters often start with something that looks legitimate: a job ad, a direct message, even a friendly chat. Their profile might look legit, with a professional photo, multiple ads and plenty of connections. Then they might switch platforms (WhatsApp, etc) or ask for personal info or upfront fees. The goal? Obtain identity details, money, or access to something you shouldn’t share.

Remember: a genuine recruiter will never ask you to pay for a job, training or “exclusive access.”

Key Red Flags to Watch For

  • Emails from free accounts (Gmail, Hotmail) instead of a working company domain.
  • You’re asked for money, bank details or cryptocurrency.
  • The job is unbelievably easy, high-paying and asks very little effort.
  • The process is vague, rushed, or skips interviews/reference checks.
  • The job isn't listed on the official website or trusted job boards.

How to Verify It’s Really Us

At Enterprise:

  • We’ll always use an @enterprise.co.nz domain email.
  • We post our vacancies on our official website, Seek, TradeMe and sometimes on our socials: LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram.
  • We’ll never request money, ask for advance payment, or demand private account transfers.
  • If in doubt, contact your local branch and we’ll confirm whether you’re dealing with the right person.

What to Do If You Suspect a Scam

  1. Stop sharing personal or bank information.
  2. Verify the person contacting you — check our site or call the branch.
  3. Report it on the platform you see it on and let your Enterprise contact know.
  4. Stay cautious of unsolicited offers that feel too good to be true.

Final Thoughts

Genuine recruitment is built on trust, transparency and results. Scams thrive on hurry, confusion and fear. By keeping your eyes open and knowing what’s normal, you give yourself the best chance of landing a real opportunity; one backed by a real company, real people and real outcomes.
