How Sport Shaped the Way I Work
Sport has always been a huge part of my life. Whether I’m watching from the sidelines or playing on the pitch, I’m completely invested in the competition, the teamwork, and the moments that bring people together. For me, it’s never just about winning. It’s about creating memories, pushing the limits, and making every second count. That mindset has carried through into my professional life in more ways than I ever expected.
In my younger years, I was fiercely competitive, always chasing the win. Over time, that drive has shifted into something more meaningful: a passion for seeing others succeed. These days, my biggest motivation comes from supporting people in reaching their goals, whether it’s candidates landing roles, clients winning tenders, or teammates hitting new milestones.
That same energy I brought to the pitch, I now bring to my work. I thrive on momentum, growth, and shared wins. When a candidate secures a job they’ve been working hard for, or a client achieves a major milestone, I feel just as invested as if it were my own success. And when colleagues grow in their careers, overcome challenges, or simply find their rhythm, that’s what really fuels me.
Sport taught me the value of teamwork, resilience, and giving it everything you’ve got. Today, those lessons still guide me; not in scoring goals, but in helping others reach theirs.
Finding Balance as a Leader and Mum
Of course, like many working parents, I’m spinning multiple plates: juggling leadership, managing a busy desk, and life with two young girls at home. It’s not always easy, but it’s definitely rewarding. People often ask how I balance it all, and while there's no perfect formula, a few key strategies help me stay grounded and on top of it:
Clean space, clear mindset
I truly believe in the power of organisation. A tidy space does wonders for mental clarity. I prioritise staying on top of household tasks (yes, even the never-ending laundry!) and make use of evenings to prep for the next day. I also try to involve my girls in everyday errands, turning them into fun, shared moments rather than chores.
Health is wealth
Physical and mental wellbeing are non-negotiable for me. Whether it’s playing hockey, heading to the gym, or fuelling my body with meals that keep me going (my dinner routine is pretty much on repeat… and I love it!), these habits keep me energised. Oh, and impromptu dance parties with my girls? They're a must.
Love what you do
It might sound simple, but it’s true, I genuinely love what I do. That passion fuels my motivation to show up each day, bring a positive mindset, and consistently deliver at a high level. I take pride in the work I do, and in the relationships I’ve built with those around me.
And lastly, I’m incredibly grateful for the people in my corner. I truly believe in surrounding yourself with those who lift you up. I have a strong support system, both personally and professionally, and I trust them wholeheartedly, just as they trust me. That kind of mutual respect and encouragement is everything.
Seven Years of Growth at Enterprise
I often enjoy hearing how people got their start in recruitment. Those early stories say a lot. But I believe it is not just about how you start — it is about what you experience along the way that truly shapes your career. The challenges, the wins, the exposure, and most importantly, the people you work with. Each part plays a role in the kind of professional you become.
Over the past seven years at Enterprise, I have held a number of roles across the business. Each one taught me something new, pushed me out of my comfort zone, and contributed to the leader I am today. But one of the most defining parts of my journey has been having an incredible mentor and leader alongside me. Their guidance, belief, and support helped shape not only my career but also how I now lead and support others. I would not be where I am without that influence.
Starting Out: Commercial Temp Recruitment
Like many, I began fresh to recruitment and was thrown straight into the pace of a commercial temp desk. Clients needed people urgently, sometimes within hours, and I thrived on the challenge. It taught me how to work with urgency, how to respond under pressure, and how to stay solutions-focused when the stakes are high. That energy lit a fire in me that still drives my approach today.
Expanding Experience: Permanent Roles and Projects
As my confidence grew, I moved into a hybrid role within commercial and professional services. I began working on permanent roles while supporting high-volume projects. I learned what it meant to balance busy day-to-day delivery with larger strategic priorities. With the support of my mentor and the team around me, I grew quickly and started to find my confidence in this world of recruitment.
Life Changes and Leadership Growth
After returning from my first paternity leave, I became even more focused. Time management improved, and I learned how to be more efficient and intentional. I took on a project leadership role, managing a team and supporting delivery at scale. That experience gave me clarity on what strong leadership looks like and how to bring out the best in others while balancing business needs.
After having my second daughter, I stepped into internal recruitment and capability. This role gave me valuable insight into how our business operates behind the scenes. I worked closely with internal systems, onboarding, and recruitment processes, while also connecting with senior leaders. It was a shift in pace, but one that helped me develop a broader view of how we grow talent across the business.
Stepping into Business Management
When the Business Manager role came across my desk to recruit, I initially did not consider it for myself. But the more I learned about the role, the more it aligned with what I wanted next. I was ready to get back into the delivery space, to support my team, and to contribute directly to our clients and candidates again.
So, I went for it. Not just because it was the next step, but because I knew I had the passion, experience, and support to make it count.
Looking Back
Each role at Enterprise has shaped me differently. From the fast-paced nature of temp recruitment to the strategic view from internal capability, I have learned, grown, and gained confidence. But what I value most is the people; belief in me helped build my foundation, and I now strive to do the same for others.
Leadership, for me, is about staying grounded, being consistent, and helping others succeed. I am proud of the journey so far, and even more excited for what comes next.
