Changing markets

"Changing markets are constant..."

General Manager of Enterprise Recruitment, Kurt McInerney reflects on the recruitment industry over the past few years.

"The past 3 years have been a rollercoaster for the recruitment market. We been through times of uncertainty during covid, with closed borders, a shortage of candidates, and unprecedented work from home scenarios. Now that borders have opened again, we have seen a flood of skilled workers heading abroad, but also an influx of skilled international workers arriving on our shores. We are certainly seeing an increase in both local and international candidate availability across most sectors and locations, which is positive for businesses and employers across New Zealand.

One thing that I have come to understand from my 18 years of working in recruitment, is that changing markets are constant, and we can continue to expect markets to evolve as we work through things like elections, immigration changes, and the commencement and completion of major projects.

In the current market, where there is an increase in candidate availability, partnering with the right recruitment organisation is critical. At the core of it, we add the most value by identifying and attracting the best available talent in the market. The tools and resources we have on hand allow us to effectively navigate the expanding talent pools and streamline the recruitment process, saving time and resources. Most businesses and employers would agree that the critical factor when recruiting staff is quality and suitability, and quantity of candidates doesn’t automatically guarantee that. Partnering with an experienced recruitment agency that has successfully worked through ever-changing markets certainly assists with achieving that goal."
