Senior Payroll Specialist

Are you a payroll expert ready to take on a new challenge in a large, complex environment? Our client is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist to lead end-to-end payroll processing and contribute to system and process improvements in a large, complex environment.

You’ll manage payroll operations using PayGlobal and Workforce Time & Attendance systems, ensuring accuracy across weekly, fortnightly, and monthly pay cycles. You’ll also play a key role in interpreting and applying Collective Employment Agreements (CEAs), maintaining documentation, and supporting the wider team’s understanding of employment terms.

Key Responsibilities:

Payroll Operations
  • Process weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payrolls
  • Maintain employee records in PayGlobal and Workforce systems
  • Support the Payroll Development Manager with reporting and analysis
  • Oversee the implementation and administration of Collective Bargaining Agreements, supporting a broader understanding across the team
  • Respond to internal and external payroll queries with accuracy and professionalism
  • Maintain payroll documentation and training materials
Reporting & Projects
  • Assist with payroll testing, system upgrades, and improvement initiatives
  • Manage payroll-related reporting for external agencies (e.g. IRD, ACC, Southern Cross)
  • Maintain records for employee benefits, including insurance, superannuation, and motor vehicles
Compliance & Complexity
  • Ensure payroll operations comply with NZ legislation (e.g. Holidays Act 2003, Employment Relations Act 2000, KiwiSaver Act 2006)
  • Understand immigration requirements and ACC accreditation processes
About You | Mōku Ake
  • Extensive end-to-end payroll experience in a large organisation
  • Strong technical payroll knowledge and advanced Excel skills
  • Experience with PayGlobal and Workforce Time & Attendance
  • High attention to detail and a proactive approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Tech-savvy with a continuous improvement mindset
