Careful reference checking gives us an insight into candidates’ personalities, verifies their skills, and proves how well they are put into practise.
For every candidate, we gain at least two verbal references from past employers (conducted in accordance with the Privacy Act). These references often confirm the suitability, or otherwise, for a particular temporary or permanent placement. Items we explore include all of the following.
  • Honesty – We check that the candidate has a history of honesty and integrity in the workplace, both in regards to work and in interaction with colleagues.
  • Job competence – This is an opportunity to gain an understanding of their skills and abilities. It also allows us to check their ability to perform specific tasks in a satisfactory manner.
  • Reliability – Punctuality, attendance records, unexplained absences and organisational ability are all explored.
  • Motivation – Personal and “on the job” motivation are discussed. We also look at the level of supervision required and whether the candidate is suitable for promotion.
  • Compatibility – We confirm the candidate’s ability to relate to colleagues, supervisors and management. We confirm the match between skills required and skills possessed, and their overall attitude to work.
  • Relevant comments – We give the referee a chance to make any relevant comments. This could be anything from the candidate’s appearance and grooming, to whether they would re-employ the candidate and how well they feel the candidate suits the proposed role.
We can conduct regular site visits to speak to both Enterprise staff on assignment and your supervisory and management staff. This helps us maximise the results our staff deliver and ensures all needs are handled with urgency and efficiency.
We can implement a staff performance programme. This involves us conducting a regular review with staff and their direct report, and completing a survey to grade staff in: punctuality and attendance, ability to learn new tasks, quality of work, competency level, attitude to work and colleagues, flexibility, and any other identified areas.
We can conduct regular reviews, helping to ensure consistency in staff performance. These enhance overall staff performance and productivity, and provide a platform to monitor staff training and development programmes.
We can introduce key performance indicators to measure our overall service delivery against agreed expectations.
